A system of 4 self-watering gardening pots 30cm top diameter x 46cm high when assembled, used 1 season to grow kale, tomatoes, and herbs on our balcony. All pots are foodsafe and connected by a hose system and then to a small plastic water level control tank (39cm L x 29cm W x 21cm H). This regulation tank is presently connected to a 5gallon/19L bucket water storage container(coloured bucket in photos), but this can be easily changed to whatever you desire.
I created this system for use on our indoor balcony but we do not get enough sun for vigourous growth so I am giving up.
Also included is spray paint for the other pots, extra hose, and attachments for additional pots.
My cost for supplies alone was well over $100.
Soil is not included and can be made from recipes online. REGULAR SOIL WILL NOT WORK AS THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONS VIA A WICKING EFFECT NOT COMPATIBLE WITH REGULAR SOIL.
- Must have a level surface with all pots at same elevation -
*EASILY ADAPTED FOR USE OUTDOORS BY DRILLING A HOLE IN EACH POT TO RELEASE RAINWATER. OTHERWISE A ROOF IS NEEDED OVERTOP OF THE 4 POTS TO STOP OVERWATERING IN THE RAIN*
- more pots may be added and the system may be painted and I believe it can be attached to a household or garden hose, although I would not do this inside a home in case of leaks and I have not done this myself.
- I have not set this system up this year, but it worked flawlessly last year.
