The Honda CB550 is often described as the best motorcycle to build a café racer. There are a number of reasons for this. The frame is simple and has the right lines. You could, in theory, complete a build without any cutting, welding or modifying. Parts are plentiful and cheap. [Check out a supplier like 4into1.com and you will be amazed what aftermarket parts are available at dirt-cheap prices.] Many of the world's top designers have used the CB550 as their donor bike. This means you can get so many ideas and sources of inspiration. It's true that people can build a café racer from virtually any bike, but what cost? Check out the café racers by Dustin Kott of California, who chooses the CB550 for his signature style. On the other hand, you might be a believer in keeping it original. That was my idea. It is very hard to find an original CB550F because they are so popular with the café racer crowd. You might want to rescue it from this lot. Restore an old bike - and it restores you. Whoever I sell this bike to, I want it to be someone who will take it to the next level, whatever that "next-level" might be. If you are serious about restoring or building, come & see if this is the bike for you. I want it to go to the right person who will create a masterpiece. It was a typical barn find from Saltspring Island. I have an application in to ICBC to have its registration restored. I won't be recovering the money I put into it, so I am going to look at all offers.
