"The Fort"
In summer 2005 our family began construction of our new fort. Dad finished while my brother & I were on vacation. For some reason he let the neighborhood kids play on it before we did. This made the 4 year old version of me a little angry, but I got over it. For years we played in The Fort, we used it as a HQ & a lookout tower but that wasn't enough. I wanted this to be a bunker, a place we take refuge during water fights. Stressful days of brainstorming began, I had to find a way to make The Fort waterproof. Finally it hit me, plywood walls instead of inferior picket walls. Unfortunately "the parents" would not allow a full reconstruction of top floor so I had to make do. We painted plywood, set it in place & drilled in the screws-Disclaimer: When I say "we" I mean Dad. At this point my hand-eye coordination had not developed fully. After assembly, play continued. Water fights were won & lost, all credited to The Fort.
As time passed The Fort started to lose its novelty. Here we are today (I'm now 15). Just a few hours ago Mom asked me to prepare The Fort for pictures & write an ad. As I was writing I was not in the mood to list facts; seeing as Mom never specified what had to be in the ad I thought I may as well share The Fort's story & let her list the specifications-It's a bite in the behind as punishment for her shortcomings. I love my Mom. :)
Fort specs (from Mom):
* Height: ~ 11 ft
* Length: ~ 8 ft
* Width: ~ 5 ft for fort, 13 ft when including the swing part
* Inside height at center ~ 6 ft
* Inside height at edge of roof (less than 5 ft, trust me, my head has beaned itself many times on the wood, did I mention it is super sturdy?!? My head, not so much)
* Shake roof (Dad did not spare any expense, nothing but the best for his boys)
* Includes: slide, IKEA swing, rings & rope stairs, vinyl floor & all plywood too
* Includes $800.00++ worth of lumber
