VINTAGE AFRICAN THORN WOOD TRIBAL FIGURAL CHESS SET, Nigeria This set was made in the Yaruba area in Nigeria in thorn wood, natural and dark - o ne side predominantly dark brown, the other side in a lighter wood. S mall parts are glued together. The chessmen depicting tribal figures, the king is a tribal chief, and the queen is a lady in traditional head turban , bishops as witch doctors, knights as horsemen, rooks as tribal huts, pawns as pot-bellied tribesmen. The biggest piece the king is 4 1/2 ins high. 1 rook is missing, also s ome pieces are broken with a few fragments missing (i.e. black king is missing legs, 1 knight is missing its head, 1 bishop is missing its cross, 1 pawn is broken etc.). Set needs repairs and TLC. Comes with a 16" wooden board. Selling is as.
